Toronto: The man found dead in an accident in the Newton area of the city is an Indian-Canadian man who was allegedly involved in the local drug trade, police in the Canadian city of Surrey said.

Police found Lucky Dhanoa on March 11 in a car that hit a tree. Dhanoa was allegedly involved in the local drug trade and was found with drugs and money at the time of his death, The Link reported on Saturday.

The incident took place in a residential area in the Newton area of Surrey in British Columbia on March 11.

Police found Dhanoa inside the vehicle with injuries “inconsistent with a car crash,” the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said in a release Saturday.

Police said that fatal injuries of the deceased were “inconsistent” with a car crash and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police was looking into the ‘suspicious’ death, CBC News reported.

“We are in the evidence gathering stage at this time,” Sergeant Stephanie Ashton said last week.  (Inputs from Agencies)
