The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has summoned the Delhi Transportation Corporation (DTC) over negligence in the maintenance of its buses. They questioned DTC about its fleet of air conditioned buses causing air and noise pollution, while issuing notices to manufacturers Ashok Leyland and Tata Motors to be present in the next hearing.

Taking the issue into cognizance, the tribunal noted that the AC buses around the capital don't have much of passengers throughout the day, doing round of roads all day, sometimes also consuming a large space resulting in heavy traffic. Sometimes these buses have only a few travellers, which also results in waste of state revenue. Instead NGT suggested deploying small buses in lean hours of the day and in the late night.

NGT also talked about timely maintenance and pollution check of all the buses currently in operation. They suggested regular mechanical check-up through computerised systems. In their defence, DTC officials talked about ongoing assessment and said that the department is working on rationalisation of different routes.
