65-episode scripted Biopic series on Baba Ramdev to be aired on Discovery’s Hindi channel

Mumbai, May 9, 2017: A 65-episode scripted biopic series on Baba Ramdev will be aired on Discovery’s upcoming Hindi general entertainment channel in India.

Discovery Communications on Tuesday announced its plan to roll out Discovery JEET, a new entertainment channel across India, starting at the end of 2017.

The new channel will be the flagship for the network’s ambitious investment into original local productions in India, superserving superfans and nurturing communities around a range of programme genres including true crime investigations, small-town heroes and gritty survival.

The programming line-up will include “Swami Baba Ramdev: The Untold Story”, a scripted biopic series tracing Baba Ramdev’s inspirational journey from a life of anonymity to national icon, international cult figure and now a business mogul.

“We are excited to launch Discovery JEET, which will bring a new style of entertainment, in a truly local, bespoke, ground-up offering. It borrows the best of Discovery’s ethos, seeded in fact and purpose-driven content, and leveraging global resources to mount it at a scale that delivers larger-than-life stories,” Karan Bajaj, Senior Vice President and General Manager, South Asia, Discovery Networks Asia Pacific, said in a statement.

“The expansion into general entertainment with JEET redefines how Discovery will connect and interact with new young audiences across the heartlands of India. JEET is fun, relatable, and exciting and brings to life the captivating, real stories of India’s own in a manner never seen before.”

“Saragarhi – India’s Bravest Day”, “Gabru: The Birth of Hip Hop” and “Gangs of Mumbai” are some of the other shows that will be aired on the channel. (IANS)

New Delhi, September 22, 2017: A few weeks after the sentence of self-styled Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the Godman and a spiritual leader is ready to become a media sensation again through his upcoming biopic.

Titled, ‘Ab Hoga Insaaf’ (It is time for Justice) the film is based on the self-indulgent lifestyle of the charlatan. The film will reflect the real-life relationship of Rahim and his adopted daughter Honeypreet Insaan, who has worked in all the films under the franchise of Ram Rahim.

Bollywood actor Raza Murad will enact the role of Godman, whereas item girl Rakhi Sawant will play the role of Honeypreet. Ajaz Khan will be an investigation officer in the film. Sawant and her brother Rakesh Sawant are directing the film.

The release of the film is yet to be announced.

On 28th August, Indian court sentenced Singh with 20 years of imprisonment in a rape case that dates back to 2002. The women, who were also the follower of Singh, accused him of raping them in the headquarter of his organization ‘Dera Sacha Sauda’ in Sirsa.

Singh’s verdict followed lockdown in various parts of Haryana and Punjab, killing around two dozens of people and injuring more than 200.

The situation was so intense that police issued orders to shoot the violent protesters at sight.

Singh in 2015 started his franchise that portrayed him as “Messenger of God.” The Godman through his singing and dancing preached thousands of people and his sensation continuous with the upcoming release.

August 14, 2017: Yoga guru and Patanjali founder Baba Ramdev spoke at the World Peace and Harmony Conclave on Sunday.

On the topic of the Babri dispute, Baba Ramdev sided with Maulana Kalbe Sadiq, a Shia cleric, that peace is the only way the matter needs to be resolved. The Shia cleric also spoke at the event.

Baba Ramdev said to the audience, “This is not a matter of land or Ramjanmabhoomi and Masjid. This is a matter of conscience.” Maulana Kalbe Sadiq also promoted peace as a solution to the Babri dispute. He further said that if the Supreme court verdict is in favor of the temple, then Muslims should give up their claim on the disputed land, mentioned PTI report.

Further, the cleric expressed full faith in the proceedings of the Supreme Court. ANI reports that the Maulana also said, “If Babri Masjid verdict is not in favor of Muslims, then they should peacefully accept it.”

He also said that giving away one thing that is close sends thousands in return, a remark which has received a lot of criticism.

On Friday, the Supreme Court began the cross-hearing in the Babri case. Maulana’s comments imply that Shia Waqf Board accepts having a mosque built at a distance from the disputed land.
