8 Growing Job Sectors in the United States

Due to an aging population and long lifespans, more and more medical professionals are needed every year

If you’re someone that’s looking for a new career or looking for a career change, then you want to choose a job where you know you can stick around. For example, you wouldn’t want to put time and effort into becoming a travel agent as that job seems to be disappearing more and more every day.

Below, we’ve compiled eight job sectors that are booming and have a rosy future. So if you’re on the job hunt, you might want to consider stepping into one of these fields.

Solar Energy

Solar energy has been around for quite awhile now, but why is it just now taking the leap? Renewable energies have long been positive but expensive alternatives to traditional energy sources. Over the past year, solar energy has finally become an affordable option for the average citizen.

This means that more and more people will be turning to solar energy which means more panels and more installations. It’s great news for everyone involved, from technicians to managers.

Interpretation and Translation

Many think that these two are the same, but let’s make a quick note. Interpretation is transmitting information in two languages through speech, while translation is through the written word.

Even though there are plenty of apps and tools out there for easy translation, the job market is set to grow by 9% over the next five years, well above the national average. So if you have a second language skill, it might be time to put it to use.

Personal Care Aides

Personal care is a wide term that can include many, many different occupations, such as fitness trainers, personal shopping, barbers, childcare, and more has grown exponentially over the last decade.

Experts believe this is tied recent strong economic growth as well as the need for people to feel more in control of their work schedules. It also directly ties in with the rise of self-employed workers over the same time period.

Real Estate

Location, location, location. With a strong economy (and potential downturn coming), the real estate business continues to thrive. This includes everything, from rental properties, real estate agents, brokers, and property management.

If you’re choosing to go the property management route, you may need to build up a bit of capital before you can enter the business. Look for loans or other ways to jumpstart your new career and do plenty of research before fully committing.

Construction

It makes sense to jump to construction after talking about real estate. People are constantly moving, building houses, and buying property. While construction is looking at growth, the industry is also planning to face a worker shortage over the next decade, from laborers to top-level managers.

The industry is also undergoing a number of changes, thanks to new green initiatives and implementing AI and robotics into the everyday work life.

Mental Health Care

With mental health becoming more and more of an open topic in today’s society, more and more people are turning to get the help they need. Put this together with the aging population of baby boomers and the devastating opioid crisis, more people are seeking the help of mental care workers.

With that, this means that there are more mental health professionals needed than ever before. This is a career that takes plenty of school work and training, so be prepared to be studying for a few years.

Ecommerce

It’s hard to find someone that hasn’t shopped via Amazon or another online store within the past year. With it being so easy and readily available, it makes sense to order your new shoes via the web instead of going to the store.

Amazon isn’t the only king around, as plenty of people are finding it easy to open up their own ecommerce business within their own home. The world market value is set to be $5 trillion by the year 2021, with one out of every five retail purchases being made online.

Nurses

Just like the construction industry, the medical industry is set to face a worker’s shortage over the next 20 years. Due to an aging population and long lifespans, more and more medical professionals are needed every year.

Amongst there are nurses who are needed in just about every hospital around the country. Once again, this is a career path that requires around six years of schooling before you can move into the workforce.
