Jhajjar, Haryana: On his maiden visit to his native village after becoming chief of the Indian Army, General Dalbir Singh on Saturday urged people to educate their children, especially girls and encourage them to join the armed forces.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) spent close to five hours in Bissan village in Haryana’s Jhajjar district, 85 km from Delhi, and interacted with local residents.

He was accompanied by his wife Namita, daughter, and son.

Villagers saw an emotional moment as the chief of the fourth largest army in the world bent down to touch the feet of his father Ramphal Singh, a foot soldier of the same army which his son now commands.

The army chief shared his life experiences with villagers and people from nearby areas and encouraged them to work hard.

He also inaugurated a hall for indoor games at the local government senior secondary school.

When Dalbir Singh took over as COAS of the 1.3 million-strong army in July last year, the villagers collected over 150 kg of ladoos and about 5,000 crackers to celebrate his elevation.

Ramphal Singh, who retired as a subedar of the army, and mother Ishri Devi have their house in the village.

Born in the village itself, young Dalbir Singh joined the Sainik School in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan and later qualified for the National Defense Academy in Khadakwasla in Pune. He was commissioned into the 4/5 Gurkha Rifles in 1974. (IANS)(Photo:

Remember that emotions are neither masculine, nor feminine, nor right, nor wrong, they simply exist.

Is there a certain time period to wait to heal from losing a loved one? This is a difficult question to answer, but very important to ask. I personally get asked this question a lot, and my response is always the same: "It takes as long as it takes." Some people want to know exactly how long their recovery period will be so they can know when they've "gotten over" their loss. What is not okay to feel is any form of regret. Regret for all the things that you could not give to that person. Regret that you didn't even get to say goodbye. Regret that life did not turn out the way it was supposed to. All of these regrets can put you in a slumber that you will not be able to escape, so do not regret a thing! Every day we hear about a new death in the news, someone who was just starting out in their life, or someone who was on the brink of dying from a terminal illness. These stories strike our hearts and make us feel something inside. We remember how it felt to lose a loved one and we wonder if the family affected feels the same way that we did. If you're reading this, then you might be having some difficulty coping with the loss of your loved one and are desperately seeking the journey to healing.

Here are 3 tips that can help you through it:

Surrender to the experience and unveil
Surrender to the experience of your loss. Don't try to change it. Surrender to it being messy, lost, or incomplete. Surrender to the fact that life does go on, though not in the same way. Surrender to not being okay. In truth, no one can ever really "handle" a loss and often it affects you deeply, but what I wish more people knew was that our grief is more than okay, it's important. We all carry a story within us and sometimes those stories are heavy and painful. Your grief is a story that tells you more about the experiences of your life. Don't be embarrassed of it, don't run from it and don't let anyone tell you that you're weak for feeling it. It's okay to feel your feelings.

Doris Lessing who won a Nobel Prize in Literature

London (CNN)- At five o'clock in the morning, the esteemed 86-year-old astrophysicist Jim Peebles was woken suddenly by the telephone ringing.

"In previous experience, the only phone calls at that time of night are bad news," he said. This one was great news. "The opening sentence from the caller was: 'The Nobel committee has voted to award you the Nobel Prize in Physics. Do you accept?'" Peebles recalled. The wording threw him. Who wouldn't accept a Nobel Prize? "You know the Bob Dylan fiasco?" he said during a phone interview with CNN. "That might have put the wind up them."The "fiasco" Peebles mentions refers to the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature, which was controversially given to an utterly unimpressed Dylan.Aside from being ever-presents on college campuses in the 1960s, little connects Peebles, an expert in theoretical cosmology, with Dylan. But one of the starkest contrasts might lie in their reactions to winning a Nobel -- and the songwriter is far from the only laureate whose crowning turned out to be an awkward affair.

The five committees are notoriously secretive, fiercely shielding their choices from the outside world -- including the laureates themselves, who are told of their victories just minutes before they are announced to the public.
