Every year in India, November 26 is observed as the National Constitution Day. On this day, India adopted its constitution in the year 1949.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment decided on November 23, 2015, to observe November 26 as 'National Constitution Day' every year.

It must be noted that the year 2015 was chosen to mark the first National Constitution Day because the country celebrated 125th birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in that year.

As we all know, Dr. Ambedkar played a significant role in framing the Indian Constitution and was also the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly.

As a part of the celebration of National Constitution Day, educational institutions and government offices read the Preamble of the Indian Constitution.

Interestingly, National Constitution Day is also known as National Law Day because Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was the first minister of law.

This year, National Constitution Day was observed in the central hall of the Parliament as a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav'. President Ram Nath Kovind presided the event which was graced by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and other dignitaries.

Moreover, to further celebrate this auspicious day, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju launched an online course on the subject of the ‘Indian Constitution’.

Many ministers and notable figures of India took the help of Twitter to wish the country about National Constitution Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, too, tweeted about this day. In his tweet, he wrote, “Best wishes to our citizens on Constitution Day. On this special day, sharing a part of Dr. Ambedkar's speech in the Constituent Assembly on 4th November 1948 in which he moved a motion for adoption of the Draft Constitution as settled by the Drafting Committee.”

The new efforts in the Himalayan area aimed at empowering members of the Gujjar-Bakerwal and Gaddi-Sippi groups appear to have alarmed Kashmiri lawmakers. These leaders are concerned that if these areas are given more influence, they would lose a significant portion of their voter base.
