Today, November 20 marks the death anniversary of the legendary Faiz Ahmad Faiz. He was popularly known as "a man of wide experience".

Faiz was born in the year 1911 on February 13, in the Sialkot District of Punjab (present day- Faiz Qader, Pakistan). It is said that Faiz was a unique poet, and so, his work and poetry has influenced the world extensively.

Talking about his early days, Faiz gained a bachelor's degree in Arabic literature and a master's degree in English literature. Not only this, he was fluent in six languages including Persian and Russian.

Since early days, Faiz had his hands on poetry, and so in the year 1941, he published his first literary book "Naqsh-e-Faryadi”. It is believed that his style was largely influenced by the works of Allama Iqbal and Mirza Ghalib; in a sense, assimilating the modern Urdu with the classical.

In fact, along with being an esteemed shayar (poet), throughout his life, Faiz addressed the tyranny of military dictatorships, tyranny, and oppressions, and never compromised on his principles.

Faiz in a way used the art of writing to continue protesting against the outdated traditions, and continued to maintain his political themes as non-violent and peaceful.

Although been living a simple and restless life, Faiz's work, political ideology, and poetry became immortal, and now he is often referred to as one of the “greatest poets".

The complete poetry of Faiz was published in “Nushka Hai Wafa" in the year 2005. Moreover, just before dying, he got to know that he has been nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature. At the same time, Faiz's works have been translated and published in various languages.

So, as today marks the death anniversary of the poet who taught us the power of words and made us believe that revolution can bring change, let's pay a tribute to the legendary artist by carrying forward his legacy!

Canadian researchers have discovered an overlooked gene that plays a major role in the development of antibodies

Canadian researchers have discovered an overlooked gene that plays a major role in the development of antibodies, which help the immune system recognize and fight viruses including SARS-CoV-2, bacteria and other causes of infectious disease. The gene -- FAM72A -- facilitates production of high-quality antibodies by enabling the effect of an enzyme called AID (for Activation-Induced Deaminase), the researchers showed.

Immunologists have known for two decades that AID is essential to produce antibodies capable of clearing infections, but the full mechanism of its effect has remained unknown. "Our findings answer the long-standing question of how AID does its work," said Alberto Martin, a professor of immunology at the University of Toronto's Temerty Faculty of Medicine. "FAM72A helps AID to promote mutations in antibody genes that are essential for the development of effective antibodies," he added.
