Even if you take precautions, excessive exposure to sun can leave your skin with a burn, A cool shower or use of an aloe vera-based moisturiser can give a soothing effect, say experts.

Vivek Mehta, dermatologist at Pulastya and Cadle Skin Laser Clinic, and Rohit Batra, dermatologist at Dermaworld Skin and Hair Clinic, have some tips:

* Soothe your skin with cool showers and cold presses if you feel the stinging sensation on the affected area. Apply a soothing moisturiser on your skin to help trap moisture on your skin to keep it soft and supple. This will avoid the dryness that might cause itching.

* Choose an aloe vera moisturiser or soy cream which helps soothe the sunburnt skin. You can also apply hydrocortisone cream which is easily available in the market. Avoid ‘caine’ products such as benzocaine as they can irritate the skin or may cause allergy.

* Count on aspirin or ibuprofen as it helps reduce swelling, redness, and discomfort caused by sunburn. However, do not buy these without consulting your dermatologist.

* Consume plenty of water as a sunburn draws fluid to the skin’s surface. With water you are safeguarding your body against dehydration.

* In case you notice blisters on your skin after sunburn, it means that you have second-degree sunburn. However, there’s no need to worry as it is a natural process and blisters protect the skin underneath from infection during the healing process. You should not pop or pick blisters.

* Make sure that you wear loose clothing that covers your hands, feet and face, and especially the sunburnt area. Avoid fabrics like nylon, polyester and go for soft cotton and other breathable fabrics. (Bollywood Country)

"New electrodes in Apple Watch Series 4 now enable customers to take an ECG directly from the wrist," Apple said in a statement on Thursday. Flickr

The new Apple Watch can help prevent sunburn, premature skin ageing and even skin cancer as the US Patent and Trademark Office have approved its patent on monitoring ultraviolet (UV) light exposure.

Apple’s patent describes a system where UV light sensors detect sunlight and tracks exposure over time.

“The system can then provide the user with alerts about their exposure, including guidance on preventative measures if the levels are excessive,” AppleInsider reported on Tuesday.

Once the UV detection feature comes to Apple Watch, it could warn users when they have been out in the sun and exposed to UV light for too long.

The data from the sensors is fed into an analyser that compiles the total exposure time and how much UV light the user have been exposed to and then alert the user.

The new feature would add to various health benefits associated with Apple Watch Series 4.

Being utilised the world over for various health-related research — from decoding binge-eating disorder to connecting hip and knee patients to doctors — the new Apple Watch houses a feature called “Fall Detection” that will alert emergency contacts saved in your iPhone in case you meet with a hard fall.

The new Watch also has an electrical heart sensor with two new features — low heart rate notifications and faster heart rate reading.

The moment you get furious — in office or at home — Watch Series 4 sends you an immediate notification about your heart rate going through the roof, requiring you to cool down.

The electrical heart sensor is also capable of taking an electrocardiogram (ECG) using the ECG app, which will be available in the US later in 2018, as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved it. (IANS)
