Huawei all set for 5G Technical Support in Bangladesh: Report

China’s telecommunication giant Huawei is all set to facilitate Bangladesh with technical support in the implementation of 5G technology, an official statement said here on Saturday.

According to the statement, Huawei’s Senior Vice President Bruce Li talked about their readiness to help Bangladesh launch 5G when meeting Bangladeshi Post and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar recently in Dhaka, reports Xinhua news agency.

They also discussed and exchanged opinions about different issues of 5G technology including the challenges and possibilities.

Li said Bangladesh’s progress in the ICT sector was remarkable, and that 40 telecoms operators in over 20 countries are using 5G networks commercially.

According to the statement, Huawei has already signed more than 60 commercial contracts for 5G with leading global carriers and shipped more than 400,000 5G Massive MIMO active antenna units (AAUs) to global markets.

The production and supply of Huawei’s optical transmission, data communications, and IT products grew steadily. And more than 700 cities, 228 Fortune Global 500 companies, and 58 Fortune Global 100 companies had selected Huawei as their partner for digital transformation, the statement said.

Chinese local research agencies suggests that 20 per cent of all mid range smartphones will support 5G, thanks to the expansion of the network in the country.

An estimated 5 million 5G capable smartphones were sold in December 2019 alone it is expected that more than 20 per cent of the smartphones under $290 will be 5G enabled this year, news portal GSMArena reported on Tuesday.

By 2021, the same statistics are expected to be applicable across the globe.

Xiaomi co-founder Lei Jun recently announced the company is planning to pump $7 billion in 5G, AI and IoT over the next five years.

Lei said: “We need to turn our continuous advantage we have in a combination of AI, internet technologies and intelligent life into absolute victory in the intelligent scene, and completely cement our king status in the smart era.”

Earlier, Lei had also revealed that the company is planning to release more than 10 5G phones this year.
