December 3 is observed as International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Every year, December 3 is observed as International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This day is observed with a motive to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society.

It must be noted that almost one billion people out of the total population of 7 billion live with some form of disability. And, more than 100 million disabled persons are kids.

It would be right to say that persons with disabilities have been affected “disproportionately" by the health, social, and economic consequences of the global issues.

Therefore, the day is observed to raise participation of the disabled in the sustainable development of the world.

It was decided in the year 1992 by United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution 47/3, that this day must be observed annually. The primary aim of was to increase awareness of the issues faced by persons with disabilities in almost every aspect of political, social, economic, and cultural life.

Moreover, after working in the field of disability, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) was adopted in the year 2006. The CRDP advanced the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and other international development frameworks. The main purpose behind this was to increase participation of disabled people in society, end discrimination towards them, and create equal opportunities for them.

Every year, a theme is selected, and so this year’s theme is, “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world."

This International Day of Persons with Disabilities, let us pledge to make a friendly and sustainable environment for the disabled!

For the past 70 years, politicians have offered residents of indigenous communities verdant fields. They were told that they would be given all of their rights and treated equally to everyone else.
