New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will launch a settlement scheme for electricity bill disputes on Sunday, the city government said on Friday.

According to a government statement, the settlement scheme for electricity bill disputes will be named as “Bijli Bil Vivad Samadhan Scheme” and will be launched by the chief minister at an event in east Delhi. All criminal/civil proceedings, if any, related to these cases, will be withdrawn. The settlement scheme would continue for a month.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Power Minister Satyendar Jain would be present during the launch of the one-time settlement scheme, which aims to provide relief to the poor and medium income group consumers of the city.

“Consumers residing in JJ clusters who could not pay their dues in the past will be charged at Rs.250 per month only for the period for which they have not paid the dues. A  late payment surcharge will be fully waived off. The dues can be paid in six monthly installments,” the statement said.

“To give relief to the small and medium consumers of domestic category with load up to 11 kW and are booked for direct theft, entire late payment surcharge and two-third of the balance outstanding amount of the bill will be waived if they pay the total amount in one go,” it said, adding “If the consumer agrees to clear the outstanding in four monthly installments, 60 percent of the outstanding balance will be waived off.”

A BJP member Rajesh Kumar has filed a defamation complaint against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for tweeting objectional comments against his party men.

The complaint was filed before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal, who has listed the matter for a hearing on May 16.

Kumar, who claimed to be convenor of legal cell of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Purvanchal Morcha in Delhi, told the court that he was shocked to see a tweet by Kejriwal saying that BJP members kept roaming around the country and raping Hindu girls.

“The accused (Kejriwal) has successfully dented the reputation of the complainant in particular and his party,” Kumar said in his complaint.

According to Kumar, he came across the tweet on September 30, 2018 and wanted to lodge a complaint immediately, but did not believing that the people would not take it seriously.

However, during Hanuman Jayanti celebrations in his society in April, one lady on realising that he was a BJP leader, taunted him citing the tweet.

There were several such incidents when the complainant had to face embarassment due to the “utterly irresponsible and defamatory tweet by Kejriwal, who holds such high position”, said Kumar in his plea.

“The tweet has not only defamed me but crores of other BJP members and the accused cannot be permitted to go scot-free for such an offence,” the complainant said.

He has requested the court to issue summons against Kejriwal under provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act dealing with defamation and promoting enmity between different groups. (IANS)
