Modi inaugurates Sardar Sarovar Dam

Ahmedabad, Sep 17 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the inter-state Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat’s Narmada district on Sunday on his 67th birthday.

The Prime Minister who arrived in the state on Saturday night, took the blessings of his mother Heeraba Modi near state capital Gandhinagar and went straight to the Narmada dam site in Kevadia.

The height of the dam has been raised to 138.68 metres.

The inauguration was attended by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and several other religious and spiritual heads from the state.

Modi, earlier inspected progress of work on the 182 metre Statue of Unity in memory of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel being constructed at Sadhu Bet near the dam site.

He is expected to address a public rally at Daboi, and welcome the participants of the 10-day state-wide Narmada Yatra taken out in 85 chariots.

The Yatra will conclude on Sunday. (IANS)

Twitter India on Tuesday celebrated 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with the announcement of a new customised “Gandhi Emoji”.

The “Gandhi Emoji” was officially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the micro-blogging site, which features a caricature of the Father of the Nation.

“Users in India and across the world can use the “Gandhi Emoji” by using the hashtags #GandhiJayanti, #MKGandhi, #BapuAt150, #MahatmaGandhi, #MyGandhigiri, #MahatmaAt150, #NexusOfGood, among others,” Twitter India in a statement.

The emoji will be live until October 8. It is available on both the actual app and Twitter Lite.
