Nalanda University to introduce Vedic Studies, may also start short-term programmes on subjects like Mindfulness and Yoga

Patna, May 20, 2017: Nalanda University plans to introduce Vedic Studies and may also start short-term executive programmes on subjects like Mindfulness and Yoga.

“Within the existing schools, we will create new departments,” Vice Chancellor Sunaina Singh said in a statement.

“For instance, in the School of Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religions we plan to introduce Vedic Studies, Indian Spiritual Tradition and Peace Studies,” Singh said.

Envisioning Nalanda University as an intellectual bridge between India, Asia and the Asia-Pacific countries, she said the West looks to India as a solution centre.

“Indian knowledge systems have to be explored,” Singh said.

“The University may also start some short-term executive programmes on subjects like Mindfulness and Yoga.”

According to her, the university needs to build more schools and departments for academic excellence.

“The School of Linguistics and Literature and The School of International Relations and Peace Studies will be the next schools that we will focus on.”

Located in the Buddhist pilgrim town of Rajgir in Bihar’s Nalanda district, the university began its first academic session in September 2014 on a makeshift campus. (IANS)

Here’s how you can keep up with your fitness this Diwali! Nutritionist Nmami Agarwal and Preeti Kakkar, nutritional expert at Credihealth, have listed what people can do to celebrate guilt-free Diwali:

  • Plan your day: If one meal goes for a toss, make sure the rest of the meals are on track. For instance, if you’ve reserved a table for dinner, then make sure your breakfast, lunch and snacks are balanced and healthier.
  • Festival and alcohol: Just restrict to two drinks. Alcohol dehydrates your body. Avoid taking cocktails and aerated drinks too as they give you just extra calories.
  • Be active: Physical activity will keep your metabolism active too. No matter what, engage in at least 20 minutes of physical activity every day. It can be in the form of dance, walk, jogging or yoga. You may find it hard to believe, but Surya Namaskar is the best way to fight exhaustion.
  • Don’t give up on sweets: It would be a crime to cut out the sweets entirely during this season. So, choose the healthier options and watch your portion size. Go for dry fruit, phirni, kheer, dark chocolate and date mithai instead of other sugar-loaded sweets.
  • Hydrate well: Don’t wait for the thirst to strike. Keep hydrating yourself at short intervals. Moreover, it will keep you stay full and energized in the rush of all preparation. (IANS)

Mumbai, September 22, 2017: Actress Shilpa Shetty was challenged by a contestant of “Super Dancer Season 2” to show her yoga skills.

Shilpa, who judges the dance based reality show, was challenged by a contestant Jyoti Ranjan to perform yoga on stage.

“Shilpa was stunned to know that Jyoti used Shilpa’s yoga videos to master the art, so much so that he performs yoga now on a national level platform,” said a source from the show.

“The actress performed yoga but insisted on sharing the stage with Jyoti, which the latter considers one of the best moments of his life. The duo performed yoga making the co-judges, Anuraag Basu and Geeta Kapur along with the audience give a standing ovation,” added the source.
