How To Stay Safe In Coronavirus- Everything You Need To Know!

Coronavirus is a respiratory virus which originated in Wuhan, China in Dec 2019

An Overview!

Common viruses can be present anywhere and can infect any living thing easily. Viruses cannot survive on their own, they need another host to live in. Humans have been fighting against viruses for a pretty long time, medicines have been discovered for some of the viruses but some of them affected human life on a very large scale. Many deadly viruses came like Spanish flu and killed 90% of the people infected by a virus common in birds and currently, coronavirus is infecting and killing people throughout the world.

Coronavirus Pandemic (Covid-19)

Coronavirus is a respiratory virus which originated in Wuhan, China in Dec 2019. Its symptoms are not unique but a mere cold, cough and fever can be seen as the prime ones. Till date, this virus has infected over 1 lakh people worldwide and killed around 8% people of the total number. This is not the only virus infecting people worldwide, Spanish flu in 1918, whose death toll is somewhere between 17 – 50 million and swine flu in 2009, caused around 18000 deaths. Coronavirus (Covid-19) is an animal flu which was common in animals, especially bats, and due to the consumption of bat soup, according to some sources, it is spreading steadily in humans.

It has affected 140 countries so far and will continue to spread in the coming days. Researchers found that this virus will not live in high temperatures or warm weather as it can only live and survive in colder regions. There are many precautions which people can take to keep them safe. Some of the precautions are listed below:

  • Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds especially if you are in a public place or after sneezing or coughing.
  • In case water is not available with you, keep a small bottle of sanitizer in your bag and use it whenever required. Sanitizers kill germs and viruses.
  • Avoid touching your face, eyes, ears and nose with dirty hands because it can transmit the virus to your nose and mouth and further affect lungs once inhaled.
  • Eat healthily and maintain good hygiene. Try to prepare dishes at home and avoid eating outside.
  • Keep a bottle of warm water with you and sip in every 15-20 minutes. This can wash away the virus, if any, from your throat and pass it to your stomach. The acids present in the stomach will kill it anyway.
  • Avoid close contact with people because when a virus enters a body, it will not show the symptoms instantly. It usually can take 4-10 days to appear as symptoms.
  • If you are sick, you should stay at home but if an emergency arises, you can wear a mask when you are going out which will prevent others from getting infected.

Awareness of coronavirus is important because this is currently infecting several people nowadays and most of the people are still not aware of the symptoms and do’s and don’ts. If you want to start an awareness campaign about this deadly disease, you can do it by using customized wristbands by selecting a particular color and writing a message identifying this virus which will help in educating people who are living in urban areas as this virus can spread to every nook and corner of the nation in no time.

Safety Precautions By Government

As we know that this virus is spreading very fast in several countries, the government is taking precautionary measures to stop the spreading of coronavirus. In the USA, bars, restaurants, institutions and all the public places are shut down.

Not only in the USA, Italy, France, but China is also introducing similar precautions to save the public from this pandemic.

Moreover, people coming from coronavirus-hit nations are being quarantined for 14 days and a complete list of people coming in a particular country is being provided by the airport officials to the government.

People At Risk

  • Persons who have a travel history of coronavirus-hit regions such as Italy, China etc. In the last 14-15 days.
  • People who have cancer or other lungs or heart-related disease.
  • Elderly people.
  • People with any severe medical history
  • living in coronavirus-hit communities

 Transmission Of The Virus

Coronavirus is usually transmitted due to the personal and close contact with the infected person or touching an object having some infected droplets. Viruses are small infections which can infect a complete human body once entered.

Transmission can be prevented by putting on masks if you are sick. Otherwise, other healthy people can also be affected because of one sick person.

Once infected, the patient will be shifted to an isolation ward after diagnosing. Coronavirus is dangerous only because the medication is not developed yet and it can spread among various individuals in a short period. Once the vaccination is there, patients will recover fastly.

 Treatment For Coronavirus

Currently, there is no particular treatment for this deadly virus, but from reports, it is possible that Israel will shortly announce a vaccine which will help to cure coronavirus but it is not sure as it has been tested first by clinical researchers before using it on the patients. No antibiotics and other medications can prevent this virus from spreading. So, it is advisable to the public that they should take precautionary measures beforehand.

As treatment is not discovered to date, people can take other measures and stay at home to stop the spread of this virus.

 Conclusion:

No doubt, coronavirus is continuously infecting people but the number of recovering patients is larger than the infected individuals. Countries have to join hands together to fight against this deadly disease. They should try to keep people safe by shutting down public places and preventing any travel outside a nation. This might have an adverse effect on the overall economy but prevention of this virus should be on priority for every country. As an individual, if you are taking all the precautions listed above, there are fewer chances of getting the infection. So, let’s stay safe and fight against this pandemic together.
