Tata Communications Team Up with Thales to Develop Secure IoT Connectivity Solution

Tata Communications has teamed up with digital security firm Thales to develop a secure global Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity solution.

The solution aims to safeguard critical data in sectors such as automotive, both at the device and network level, and give businesses and manufacturers peace of mind that their critical IoT data is protected against cyber attacks, Tata Communications said in a statement on Friday.

“IoT could transform how businesses operate and how people engage with one another and with every ‘thing.’ Protecting data against cyber-attacks both at the device and network level is crucial to accelerate IoT adoption worldwide,” said Anthony Bartolo, Chief Product Officer, Tata Communications.

“Tata Communications MOVE together with Thales’s T-Sure solution aims to help businesses adopt IoT with confidence. It takes us closer to fulfilling our vision for a world where anything can be born connected – and born secure,” Bartolo added.

Thales will provide its T-sure warranted digital identity solution to Tata Communications MOVE SIM cards, based on technologies from Gemalto, a Thales company.

While Tata Communications MOVE encrypts the data in motion (in current use), T-Sure protects the information at rest (archived) on the SIM, therefore safeguarding data both on the network and at the device level.

The two companies look to undertake a series of proof-of-concepts with customers to test this solution in action.

“The only thing that will allow IoT to fulfil its potential and bring about innovations like autonomous vehicles is totally trusted and secure data connectivity,” said Gareth Williams, Vice President, Secure Communications and Information Systems, Thales.

IoT has now become an integral part for human beings.

Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) based applications will create over 28 lakh jobs in rural India over a period of 8 to 10 years with an annual value of Rs 60,000 crore, a study by Broadband India Forum (BIF) has shown.

Out of the 28 lakh jobs, at least 21 lakh jobs will be created for the agriculture sector and the other 7 lakh jobs in the rural healthcare sector, said the study done by BIF in consultation with the Electronics Skill Council of India, the Agriculture Skill Council and the Healthcare Sector Skill Council.

“These jobs will be created over next 8-10 years and the pace and quantity of job creation is likely to further increase post 2021-22 once 5G technology is implemented,” it said.

The study highlighted that key applications such as satellite mapping, electronic market place, livestock traceability, climate sensing stations, product traceability, and agriculture drones have the potential to transform the agriculture sector.
