Srinagar: Three militants were killed and an army soldier injured in a night-long gunfight in Kashmir’s Kupwara district, an official said on Sunday .
“At 8 p.m. yesterday (Saturday) a search party of 21 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and police was fired upon by hiding militants in Khumhaira forests (Handwara) in the Kupwara district,” a senior police official said.
“The area was immediately cordoned off and reinforcements were rushed to ensure that the hiding militants could not escape. In the ensuing encounter, three militants were killed, while an army soldier has been injured,” he added.
The explosion took place near the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is under construction near the Giza pyramids. A statement issued by the antiquities ministry said the explosion caused no damage to the museum.
In December, three Vietnamese tourists and one Egyptian guide were killed when a bomb hit their bus near the Giza pyramids. (VOA)
