World Oceans Day: Conserve Water Bodies for Future!

June 8 is celebrated as World Oceans Day globally

8th of June is worldwide celebrated as World Oceans Day. It reminds us of the important role that oceans play in our day-to-day life. They are a critical part of the biosphere and a major source of food and medicine for humans.

The United Nations celebrates the existence of oceans and their importance in our lives and also inspires action to protect them. United Nations also promotes sustainable use of ocean resources. On this day we discuss various methods to save oceans and how to use them sustainably.

As per the United Nations website, it celebrates World Oceans Day every year on 8 June. Many countries have celebrated this special day since 1992, following the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, held in Rio de Janeiro as per an article by DNA.

Theme for 2020

The theme for World Ocean Day 2020 is ‘Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean’. Many people hold events, seminars, rallies to raise awareness about oceans every year. This year the celebrations will be held online due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
