The holy city of Sangam, Allahabad, is preparing for its next Kumbh Mela on 15th January, 2019 and the government of Uttar Pradesh is in the mood to rename the city as Prayagraj by then.
There were speculations since Yogi Adityanath took oath as the Chief Minister of the state that the name of Allahabad could be renamed to Prayagraj. Even several banners prepared for upcoming Kumbh Mela have already shown the name of the city as Prayagraj.
Allahabad is known as Prayag due to the meeting point of three sacred rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. Talking to ANI, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya said, “ The place (Allahabad) has always been recognized by its place Prayag since ages.”

Maurya had confirmed the news of renaming Allahabad stating that the government had decided to do the change.
Kumbh Mela is organized in the city every 12 years. The changing of the name might be done before the Kumbh Mela scheduled for next year as several Akharas had requested Yogi Adityanath to do the modification before Kumbh Begins.
