A chilling murder case has unfolded in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, where a 36-year-old man, Karan Dev, was killed by his wife, Sushmita, and her lover, Rahul, who is also the victim's cousin. Initially reported as an accidental electrocution, the case took a dramatic turn after incriminating Instagram messages revealed a premeditated plot. Both suspects have been arrested and have confessed to the crime, according to Delhi Police.

The incident occurred on July 12, 2025, when Karan Dev was found dead at his home. Sushmita claimed her husband had suffered an electric shock, and the family initially declined a post-mortem, believing the death to be accidental. However, due to the victim’s relatively young age and suspicious circumstances, police insisted on an autopsy at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in Harinagar. The post-mortem results prompted further investigation, which uncovered a shocking conspiracy.

On July 16, Karan’s younger brother, Kunal Dev, provided police with a video recording of a conversation between Sushmita and Rahul, retrieved from Instagram. The messages detailed a plan to sedate Karan with 15 sleeping pills mixed into his food. When the sedatives failed to kill him after three hours, Sushmita messaged Rahul, expressing frustration: “Check once how long it does it takes to die after taking the medicine. It’s been three hours since he ate food. No vomiting, no potty, nothing. And no death yet either. Then what should we do, suggest something.” Rahul responded, “If you can’t figure anything out, give him a shock.” The conversation continued with Sushmita stating, “I can’t get his mouth open. I can pour water in, but I can’t give the medicine,” indicating her attempt to administer more drugs.

Following this, the couple allegedly resorted to electrocution to ensure Karan’s death. Sushmita reportedly confessed during interrogation that Karan had slapped and abused her the day before Karwa Chauth and frequently demanded money, which may have contributed to her motive.

The police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on July 16 after Kunal submitted the chat evidence. Both Sushmita and Rahul were arrested and have reportedly confessed to their roles in the murder. The case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the role of digital evidence in uncovering hidden crimes.

Authorities continue to investigate any additional details or accomplices involved in the case. (Rh/Eth/RS)
