Man Arrested in Delhi for Allegedly Raping his Mother Over Past Grudge

A 39-year-old man was arrested in central Delhi’s Hauz Qazi area for allegedly raping his 65-year-old mother twice. Police said the accused claimed he was “punishing” her for an alleged extramarital affair he believed had taken place during his childhood.

The woman, accompanied by her 25-year-old daughter, filed a written complaint at Hauz Qazi police station on August 15, 2025. She told police the assaults occurred after the family returned from a religious pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia earlier this month.

According to the complaint, the victim lives with her husband, a retired government employee, the accused son, and her younger daughter. The couple also has an elder daughter who is married and lives nearby with her in-laws.

The woman said she, her husband, and younger daughter left for Saudi Arabia on July 17. While they were abroad, the accused repeatedly called his father and asked them to return. He demanded that his father divorce his mother and accused her of having extramarital relationships years ago when he was a child.

The family returned to Delhi on August 1. The complaint stated that her son assaulted her the same day. “He made me remove my burqa, locked me in a room, and beat me. He told my husband that he had spoiled me,” she told police.

Out of fear of violence, she moved to her elder daughter’s home. However, when she returned on August 11, the situation escalated and the abuse continued

That night, the victim said that around 9:30 pm, the accused told his family he wanted to speak to his mother alone. He then locked her in a room and raped her. Police said he told her he was “punishing” her for her past.

The woman did not report the crime immediately. Instead, she began sleeping in her daughter’s room for safety. But on August 14, at around 3:30 am, the accused allegedly entered the room and raped her again.

The next day, the woman told her younger daughter about the assaults. The daughter urged her to go to the police. Together, they approached Hauz Qazi police station and filed a complaint.

Police registered a case under Section 64 (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused was arrested and is currently in custody. An investigation is underway. [Rh/Eth/VP]
