Earthquake With 5.8 Magnitude Hits Tibet

5.8-magnitude quake hits Tibet

A 5.8-magnitude quake hit Xigaze city in Tibet autonomous region early on Monday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Centre (CENC). No casualties have been reported.

The epicentre was Xaitongmoin county as the quake struck at a depth of 8 km, Xinhua quoted CENC as saying.

Some cracks were found on rural houses and there have been reports of damages to some livestock sheds in the county. The conditions of remote villages were still not available. (IANS)

An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted Indonesia’s Nusa Tenggara province on Sunday, but no tsunami alert was issued.

The quake struck at 4.54 a.m., with the epicentre at 148 km northeast of Alor and the depth at 573 km under the sea bed, said an official of the meteorology and geophysics agency.

“This quake did not have a potential of tsunami, so that we did not issue an alert,” the official told Xinhua news agency.

There were also no reports of damages or casualties.
