Fans of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire will know that the popular TV show has recently returned to our screens for another season. The show, hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, was billed as having brand-new episodes, but according to fans, they could be out of date. In a recent episode, viewers weren’t too happy with the question contestant Emily was given when trying to score the cash prize.

The Return of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire

Who Wants to be a Millionaire has been popular since 1998, with several celebrities stepping up to host the show. It’s so popular with audiences, that it’s even inspired a range of different formats of Who Wants to be a Millionaire themed games.

Some examples include an interactive DVD quiz game, with Tarrant himself asking the questions, or even online casino games, like the Who Wants to be a Millionaire-themed Paddy Power live casino game. In this example, players work their way through different levels with a multiple-choice format. The classic lifelines also make an appearance, in a new format to reflect the core gameplay mechanics. As the game is live, it reflects the classic game show, amplifying the stakes while providing a fun experience.

With different formats of the game becoming so popular, it’s no wonder that the show has once again returned to our screens. It’s also been announced that there is going to be a run of celebrity specials this winter, which will be shown on ITV.

The new series will continue to be hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, with 16 episodes to be aired in 2025. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire also returned to ABC in 2024, to celebrate its 25th anniversary, with Jimmy Kimmel hosting. In the US version, celebrity pairs battling it out to try and win $1 million for their chosen charities.

The Question that Baffled Viewers of the Show

A recently-aired episode of the show has also ruffled a few feathers. The question asked who was a regular judge on Britain’s Got Talent and Strictly Come Dancing, with the options available being Alesha Dixon, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli, and Amanda Holden. Emily, the contestant in the hot seat, got the question right with Alesha Dixon. However, fans were convinced that there were actually two correct answers, with Bruno Tonioli acting as a regular on Britain’s Got Talent. This has led viewers to suggest that the question that was asked was either outdated, or the episode was filmed quite a long time ago.

Another recent episode of the show that got fans talking was the one featuring a contestant named Kevin, who managed to reach the £125,000 question without using a single lifeline. When asked what the smallest painting was out of Girl with a Pearl Earring, American Gothic, Mona Lisa, and The Starry Night, he used his 'phone a friend' lifeline. He decided not to risk it and instead, walked away with a very respectable amount. The answer was Girl with a Pearl Earring, and his answer would have been The Starry Night, leading fans to applaud his tactics for being more conservative in his approach to the show.
