Air India pilots who will make onboard announcements in Hindi will be now be rewarded by the state run Air India Airlines Authority.

"Pilots should make announcements in Hindi as well, as it is our national language. We will encourage them to use Hindi in the cockpit while making onboard announcements," an AAI official told a news portal.

"Air India is one of the oldest organisations promoting Hindi in the country. So, the latest orders are nothing but a reiteration of the same," the NDTV quoted.

During a recent meeting between civil aviation ministry and airline management this issue had come up for discussion and decided to use Hindi.

Record of announcement along with flight details would be maintained by aircraft operating staff.

The use of Hindi in public offices and public life has been stressed by Narendra Modi -led NDA government after it came to power in May last year.

"I have taken a decision that we will give priority to the promotion of Hindi in all communications… because it is our official language," Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rejiju had said last year.
