Assam Police today arrested Rumi Nath, a Congress legislator for her alleged nexus with Anil Chauhan, the auto theft racketeer.

Nath was arrested for two cases, a senior official from Guwahati Police Commissionerate confirmed. Both the cases are related to her nexus with the kingpin of auto theft racket.

"She was arrested from her official residence in Dispur on Tuesday morning," the official added.

"She was arrested under non-bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which include Section 120 (B), 212, 420 and 468," the official said.

The Guwahati High Court last week had rejected the MLA's plea for an anticipatory bail.

Rumi Nath was first elected to the Assam assembly as a BJP candidate from Barkhola constituency in 2006. In 2010 she jumped ships and won the Assembly elections with a Congress ticket.

This is the second time in a month that a Congress leader has been in the news for wrong reasons. In March, Congress chief Anjan Dutta was questioned by CBI over his alleged role in the 'Saradha scam'.

Dutta's house was searched and he was also questioned last year by the CBI.

Four FIR's were lodged in Assam along with 44 in Orissa in which it was alleged that investors were duped of their money by company officials who swindled it.
