Not interested in any alliances for 2017 UP assembly elections: Akhilesh

Kanpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said his Samajwadi Party (SP) will not be entering into an alliance with any party for the 2017 state assembly elections.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event here, he ruled out any truck with any political party and said the ruling party would go the people with the good work and development ushered by his government.

After the successful 'Maha Gathbandhan' (Grand Alliance) experiment in neighbouring Bihar, there have been talks of a similar working in UP. While the SP had walked out of the Bihar alliance at the last minute, a section of the party was in favour of stitching up an alliance with "like-minded, socialist background parties" but are averse to any understanding with Congress, something which is a roadblock for an umbrella group to form here.
