Indian-Americans in Trump’s Asian Pacific American Advisory Committee

October 9, 2016: Among the 30 'elected, appointed and grassroots leaders' of the Trump's Asian Pacific American Advisory Committee, four Indian Americans are also named.

They are Puneet Ahluwalia of Virginia who is a rising star in GOP politics; K V Kumar from California who is a Republican Party activist and fundraiser who has been involved with GOP since the years of Reagan; Harry Walia of Florida, who is an entrepreneur, strongly supported by the Senator Marco Rubio in the primaries before getting on the Trump bandwagon; and Shalabh 'Shalli' Kumar of Illinois, who is the founder of the Hindu Republican Coalition.

The Asian Pacific American Advisory Committee is aimed at engaging 'Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders on relevant issues to these important and vibrant communities.' 'The committee members will support and strengthen ties to each community and provide recommendations on how best to ensure AAPI voices are heard and included in the Campaign,' the Trump Campaign said.

"It is an esteemed and accomplished group chosen by the Trump campaign and I am honored to be recognized and be part of it," Ahluwalia told India Abroad.
He is actively involved in the Republican Party for past 16 years.

"I have raised, contributed to various campaigns and importantly my committed active work with the grassroots as the first vice chair of Fairfax County Republican Committee and being elected to State Central Committee of Republican Party of Virginia was recognized by the leadership for this appointment," Ahluwalia told India Abroad.

"A political outsider who will talk straight and not mince words, speak what is in most people's mind but are unable to express is the voice of the silent majority." Ahluwalia expressed why Trump would be good for the Indian-American community and for the US-India relations.

KV Kumar, told India Abroad,"I served as a Trump delegate at the RNC Convention and have strongly supported Trump and Governor Pence for President and Vice President, respectively at the grassroots level and tried to bring in as many voters as I can to the fold, both in the Indian, Asian-American community and also among my friends and associates in the mainstream community."
