British PM Theresa May Pays Visit to Swaminarayan Temple in London ahead of UK Elections

UK, June 11, 2017: Prime Minister of Britain, Theresa May has paid a visit to the biggest temple outside India- the Swaminarayan Mandir in north-west London. The Prime Minister was accompanied by her husband to the temple, just a couple of days ahead of the general election of UK that was held on June 8.

According to the reports of PTI, a spokesperson of the temple informed the media that the Prime Minister visited the temple and offered flower petals at the central shrine of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, at Neasden in London, on June 3.

The spokesperson further added that after meeting with the old and young volunteers of the 'BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha'; Prime Minister May, 60, proceeded to meet the leaders and the volunteers of the other Hindu Organizations.

Theresa May addressed about two thousand worshippers asking them to help her create Britain to become the "world's great meritocracy", mentioned PTI.

PM May was quoted as saying, "I say to all British Hindus and Indians, come with me as we make Britain the world's great meritocracy. Come with me as we build a truly global Britain, and help me build those vital links with India. Come with me as we build a stronger, fairer and more prosperous vision for us all."

She also applauded the British-Indians for becoming "inspiring role models across all walks of life" and further stated that the foundation of the achievements of the British-Indians were crafted "on the very best of British and Indian values."

The spokesperson of the temple also reported that- both the Prime Minister and her husband, removed their shoes prior to entering the temple and Prime Minister May was presented with a traditional memento before her departure. Her visit on 3rd June marks her second visit to the temple, as she was a keynote-speaker and also the guest of honor on International Women's Day, back in march 2013.

The Prime Minister visited the temple while campaigning for the snap general election that was called by her earlier this year.
