June 26, 2017: Monsoon season is around the corner and some areas are already experiencing showers in India. The scorching heat does not let people enjoy out in the bright sun. Rain brings relief to the nature lovers. Rain makes people forgo the comfort of their four walls. They sit in their balcony and open their windows to enjoy the cool breeze, sound of rain drops and the sweet fragrance of wet soil.

This pleasure is accompanied by some enticing and mouth watering food. Every chunk of India has their own delicacies to gratify their taste buds. NewsGram brings you the most favorite and popular food items of Monsoon.

  • The word 'Pakoda' can't be separated from the rainy season. Potato, mix vegetable, chilly, cheese, spinach and onion mixed with different kinds of flour like chickpea, corn flour and all purpose flour. Bread pakora and crunchy onion pakoda are more preferred by certain people. Adding spice and chilly to sizzling hot pakodas enhance its flavor. They are best served with chutney and tea.
  • Call it Corn, Bhutta or Chaali, it's a must have in rainy season. The hot smoked corn in a contrasting cool and pleasant weather is such a relaxation. Some prefer char grilled corn while some other likes it as cooked by the hot sand. Sometimes small pieces of corns are separated from root and served individually. Corn is usually purchased from the street vendors during the monsoons.

  • 'Fafda Jalebi' is a prominent name in Guajarati cuisine. The different kind of combination of salty fafda with sweet jalebi makes a mouth watering snack in monsoon. Fafda consisting of gram flour, spices and water are deep fried in oil. Jalebi is a deep fried snack made of all purpose floor, dipped in sweet sugar syrup. This dish should be not missed this monsoon.

  • Hot soup is a very healthy option during monsoons. The chill you experience after getting wet in rain is comforted by these soups. The soups range from very basic tomato to various multi-ingredient soup. It also includes mix vegetable, fish, chicken, and south Indian rasam.
  • Dhokla is another dish for Gujarat. Dhokla is a light snack which can be enjoyed in morning and evening as a breakfast. It is prepared by rice and chickpea flour and served with green chilies at the top. This dish can also be consumed by health conscious people as it is a steamed dish.
