But there are many women inventors in history who have made marvelous contributions in the field of Science and Technology and made our lives better.

Theory of Radioactivity- Marie Curie

• Marie Curie is amongst the famous women inventors.
• She defined radioactivity, the atom could be split was her discovery which she found out when she was studying elements that are radioactive.
• She is the first woman in history to receive two Nobel Prizes. The first one was for her study on radioactivity and the second one for discovering polonium and radium.

• Hedy Lamarr was not only a world famous actress but also a woman inventor during the World War II.
• She invented secret communications system for radio-controlling torpedoes using frequency hopping technology. It leads the foundations for Wi-Fi.

The ice cream maker- Nancy Johnson

• Nancy Johnson, in 1843 invented the ice cream freezer.
• All the ice cream lovers she is the woman you should thank for adding happiness to your lives in scoops by inventing ice cream freezer.
• She patented a design that is still used currently, even after electric ice cream makers came.

Computer software- Dr. Grace Murray Hopper

• Grace Murray Hopper was an American computer scientist and United States Navy rear admiral.
• In1944, she designed Harvard's Mark I computer, a room-sized 5-ton machine.
• Hopper also invented the compiler which translated- written language into computer code.
• She was the first person to use the terms 'bug' and "debugging" after she found an actual moth which caused trouble in her computer.
• She invented COBOL, "a compiled English-like computer programming language designed for business use."
• Hopper was awarded the1st ever Computer Science Man-of-the-Year Award in 1969 from the Data Processing Management Association.
• In 1971, to honor young computer professionals for their valuable contributions in the field of computer science, The Sperry Corporation came up with an annual award in her name.

Kevlar Fibre- Stephanie Kwolek

• Stephanie Kwolek, a chemist invented super strong Fibre Kevlar.
• The invention of the Kevlar is said to be an accident.
• Kevlar is used to make bulletproof vests and has 200 other uses.
• It is 5 times stronger than steel.
• Kevlar is used in making racing sails, musical instruments, bicycle tires, body armor, building construction, frying pans etc.

The life raft- Maria Beasley

• Maria Beasley was born in Philadelphia; she was an entrepreneur and also a women inventor.
• In 1882 Maria Beasley invented a life raft to make sure of the safety of people at sea.
• Sea navigators all over the world need to thank Beasley for her wonderful invention which has saved so many lives.
• Her life rafts were used on the Titanic as well.
• She had also invented the barrel-hooping machine, cooking pans, foot warmers, anti-derailment devices for

DNA double helix- Rosalind Franklin

• Rosalind Franklin, a British biophysicist, discovered the double helix, way before James D. Watson and Francis H.C. Crick. Though, the credit for the discovery of DNA double Helix is generally given to Watson and Crick which is wrong.
• She used a technique of observing molecules with the help of X-ray diffraction to capture a photographic image of the double helix. She was the first person who did so.
• She had shown this photographic image to a male colleague, who showed it to Watson and Crick without her permission. Sadly, Rosalind didn't get any credit for her discovery.

Monopoly- Elizabeth Magie

• Monopoly is amongst the most famous board games of all time.
• It was invented in 1904 by Elizabeth Magie.
• Monopoly's original name was The Landlord's Game.
• The game was a critique on the injustices of unchecked capitalism.
• Thirty years later Charles Darrow ripped off the game completely and sold it off to Parker Brother.
• The firm somehow tracked Elizabeth Magie and paid her $500 for the invention.
