Level 2

Level 3

This level is called an intermediate certification. Furthermore, it has two sub-categories for certification that are:

  • Service Capability: This provides specialized knowledge in one or more ITIL processes.

Level 4

The fourth level for ITL certification is the Expert certification that is delivered to the candidates in modular form. For attaining this certification, the candidate must have passed all the previous levels, proved his caliber and detailed knowledge regarding the complete understanding of the entire ITIL system. On the basis of their personal requirements, candidates are asked to choose from a variety of ITIL processes. To obtain this certification, a candidate must possess a balanced and complete knowledge of the lifecycle of ITIL services.

Level 5

This is the ITIL master level certification which widens the practical application of knowledge in all the possible settings. The professionals directly involved with management, planning, and operations of ITSM are eligible for this certification to showcase their knowledge. A Master in ITIL can easily justify and describe the choice and use of techniques, knowledge, principles, and methods. Also, he can follow techniques of the management to provide the expected business outcome.

Eligibility Criteria as Per Various Levels

In order to be an ITIL certified professional you need to fulfill certain eligibility criteria that are different for various levels:

ITIL Foundations

Basically, there are no pre-requisites for this foundation level certification. This certification is actually the basic requirement for all the other levels. The basic reason for taking up this certification is for the understanding of terminologies and concepts of ITIL. So, the only requirement for taking up this certification is to understand the terminologies.

After having enough information regarding the subject matter you just have to appear for an examination and pass in it.

ITIL Practitioner

There is no requirement for taking the workshops but if you want to appear for the certification exam you will have to pass the ITIL foundational level exam.

For achieving this certification you will have to appear for the exam and gain at least 70 percent marks. This test is an open book certification that includes 40 multiple choice questions that are to be completed in 135 minutes.

ITIL Intermediate

As already mentioned, it is a twin modular series and each module has its own set of qualifications:

  • Service Lifecycle

This is for those who wish to obtain knowledge of ITIL practices linked with service lifecycle frameworks. This mainly focuses on lifecycle services and use process and practices within the same.

  • Service Capability

This is meant for the candidates who have a wish to gain a deep understanding of ITIL processes and roles.

For this, one requires an ITIL V3 Foundation Certification along with the experience in the subject field.

There is no requirement for taking the workshops but if you want to appear for the certification exam you will have to pass the ITIL foundational level exam. Pixabay

ITIL Expert

For all those candidates who are willing to attain this certification need to have ITIL Foundation certificate, or should have been working for ITIL process for quite a decent amount of time. It is mandatory for the candidates to take formal training from an Accredited Training Organization. Along with this, a candidate must possess a minimum of 17 credits from Foundations and Intermediate modules. Candidate must also have precise knowledge related to all ITIL processes.

He will be awarded Expert certification once he has completed the required modules and gained enough credits.

ITIL Master

For attaining ITIL master level certification one must have an expert certificate from ITSM. Along with this, he must have work experience in ITSM for a period of 5 to 8 years. For examinations, the candidate should be able to explain his ITIL techniques and responsibilities he has taken in gaining desired business results. The syllabus for master level certification is not fixed. Candidate must also be able to demonstrate his planning and management skills in favor of the ITIL area he has selected along with sufficient proofs for his roles.
