The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has taken the initiative to help the needy during the COVID-19 crisis.

RSS Volunteers have been working to raise awareness, dispel myths about coronavirus, distribute food packets and drinking water, conduct sanitisation drives, distribute masks and control traffic.

The Sangh had donated ration (rice, daal, tea leaves, flour, salt, potato , sugar and cooking oil) , to around 1,22,468. Moreover the Sangh also provided healthy meal boxes to 28,62,312 people.

The volunteers have set up 910 community kitchens across the country and 179 in Delhi itself.

RSS volunteers have distributed soaps among 120338 people, protective face masks among 96000 people, hand gloves to 40527 people and hand sanitizers among 11666 citizens.

The sangh has also set up the following helplines:

  • STUDENT'S Helpline – 550
  • Helpline for the people in North East- 2366
  • Helpline for the differently-abled- 171
  • Digital Helpline- UTKARSH Mobile App (The app contains 4 helplines)

The organization has provided help by distributing milk to kids, meals to elderly and PG students, medical aid to the people in need which also includes 4900 North East families.

Even though RSS is a hindu-faith based organization, it provides its service irrespective of caste, religion, gender, creed or race.

It has provided services to around 986 sex workers and 68 people from the transgender community.

In fact, Khalida Begum, a Muslim woman from Jammu and Kashmir has donated her savings of Rs 5 lakh, meant for the Hajj pilgrimage, to the RSS-affiliated 'Sewa Bharati'.

Not just to the humans, the organization also served the animals by setting up around 508 animal-care centers where animal food and medicines were given.

The 13,72,067 members-strong volunteering team defines what true humanity is and also give us the lesson to help our fellow brothers and sisters during such critical times.
