History

As per the United Nations website, it celebrates World Oceans Day every year on 8 June. Many countries have celebrated this special day since 1992, following the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, held in Rio de Janeiro as per an article by DNA.

Theme for 2020

The theme for World Ocean Day 2020 is 'Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean'. Many people hold events, seminars, rallies to raise awareness about oceans every year. This year the celebrations will be held online due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
