Nurse-Patient Interactions: In an era when incivility in hospital settings is rising nationwide, a new animated video series, “The Silent Exchange,” aims to help improve kindness and empathy in nurse-patient interactions.
Carolyn Dickens, clinical assistant professor and associate dean for practice and community partnerships at the UIC College of Nursing, and a project partner from OSF HealthCare Little Company of Mary Medical Center, produced two videos that primarily rely on visuals so that the message is accessible to everyone, regardless of language, and represent the perspective of both patients and nurses.
Dickens can discuss the publicly available videos and how incivility is detrimental to the well-being of the nurses, who will be celebrated during National Nurses Week, May 6-12, as well as to patient care and outcomes. Newswise/SP
