SEWA international is a Hindu faith-based organization that has taken the initiative to help people survive during the time of the crisis. The organization has been active on the ground early, to help deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

SEWA USA has donated 25k masks to people across the United States. The humanitarian charity has also provided with sanitizers, gloves, napkins and other personal protection equipments to its first responders.

SEWA volunteers along with the HSS Annalakshmi have also served 25 international students by providing healthy nutritious meals for a week. They had also provided ration that includes rice, dal, sooji, maggi, etc.

The organization had also collaborated with several restaurants to serve the locals and also healthcare workers and police.

The Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh in collaboration with SEWA International and Bhutanese Community delivered around 120 handmade masks to the Dublin Senior community.

Here are some accomplishments by the organization:

  • Setting up a team of 50 physicians and attorneys for guidance
  • Establishing 7 24/7 helplines to offer non-medical advice
  • Setting up a team of 1000+ volunteers through 43 SEWA chapters
  • Raising $310,000 for COVID-19 Relief efforts

The organization also aims to bring together matching blood donors and critically ill COVID-19 patients seeking the plasma. This is done in order to perform the Convalescent plasma therapy that can help save lives.

The coronavirus plasma therapy that has been approved for research by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) takes the blood plasma containing the antibodies created to fight the virus by a person who has recovered and inject it into a person suffering from the disease so that the antibodies can help fight the disease.

According to an Economic Times Report, The NGO which started its helpline on March 15 from three cities has now expanded to eight cities in the US. More than over 200 volunteers have been trained in manning the helplines. One fifth of the helpline cases are related to grocery delivery and food request, 38 per cent are of medical and health issues, 13 per cent are travel-related information and eight per cent ask immigration questions.
