October 13, 2016: Days after the incident of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal advising the Centre to provide a proof of the surgical strikes launched by the Indian army in the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), a recent short film has been released which is made by V Seven Pictures taking a dig at him.

The film portrays two Indian soldiers who are shooting down a couple of terrorists. Soon after the terrorists are dead one soldier tells the other one that they should carry dead bodies back to the post as it will be an evidence for all those asking for it, mentioned the Financial Express.

According to the Financial Express report, clearly, the scene attacks Arvind Kejriwal who he has been mentioned as Vibhishan in the film. The film metaphorically suggests about the present day Ramayana, where Pakistan is considered as the Ravana, Indian Army as Lord Ram and Arvind Kejriwal as Vibhishan.

Arvind Kejriwal is directly attacked when one of soldiers refer to him as the “muffler-topi waala” Vibhishan. The other soldier replies back saying, “This Dussehra, Vibhishan’s effigy will be burnt before Raavan’s.”

Arvind Kejriwal was criticised and trolled for advising the Centre to provide proof of the strikes, several users in social media platforms took a dig at him after that.

Even after such repeated demands coming from him and many others, due to security concerns, the government has refused to come out with the surgical strikes video.

The film ends with an apt message to all who were or are demanding evidence to the strikes saying, “A soldier himself is the evidence of a safe nation.”

Children playing ringa ringa roses in an open backyard in England

Great historic events that have shaped the world and changed the outlines of countries are often not recorded in memory, or so we think. Wars made sure to destroy evidence and heritage, and the ones who survived told the tale of what really happened. Folklore, albeit through oral tradition kept alive many such stories, hidden in verse, limericks, and rhymes.

Ringa-ringa-roses, a common playtime rhyme among children across the world, is an example of folklore that has survived for many centuries. It tells the story of the The Great Plague of London which ravaged the city between 1665-1666.

Certain tribes have remained matrilineal, where the decision-making power rests with the eldest female of the family.

In modern times, many social movements aim to bring reform to the society we live in, on the basis of certain existing patterns. Patriarchy is something that many aim to cleanse our cultures of, to usher in the era of social and gender equality. Despite all these so-called movements, in southern India, certain societies that patronise matriarchy have existed since before India's independence. The Nairs and Ezhavas of Kerala, and Bunts and Billavas of Karnataka are matrilineal societies that continue to thrive in a patriarchal country.

Kerala remains separate from the rest of India in many ways. Be it literacy policy, form of government, or cultural practices, this state does not always conform to the ideal that India is known for. Even so with their social structure. Certain tribes have remained matrilineal, where the decision-making power rests with the eldest female of the family.
