Om Prakash Chautala and his son Ajay Chautala will spend 10 years in jail as the Delhi High Court on Thursday upheld their jail term in the 2000 illegal teacher recruitment scam in the state.

The sentences of O.P. Chautala's political advisor Sher Singh Badshami, his former OSD Vidya Dhar, and the former Haryana director of primary education Sanjeev Kumar were also upheld.

Justice Siddharth Mridul dismissed the 55 appeals by the accused against the order by a special Central Bureau of Investigation court on January 22, 2013.

Of the 55 accused, the court upheld 10 years jail term for five accused and reduced the jail term of the remaining 50 accused to two years.

The accused illegally recruited 3,206 junior basic trained teachers in 2000 and are guilty of abusing their official position under the Prevention of Corruption Act. They are also accused of cheating, forgery, using fake documents as genuine and conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code.
