Delhi Education Minister orchestrated a surprise investigation in the Rajendra Prasad School in the President's Estate, New Delhi today. He examined the overall working of the municipal school including the quality of mid-day meals, absence of the teaching staff and infrastructure.

He also found discrepancies in the school's book keeping and irregularities in the purchase of equipment and other expenses.

"The school starts at 8 AM. While the children had come to the school on time, the first teacher arrived at 9.30 AM. After that, other teachers also reached. The children told us that it was routine and even the principal of the school comes at 11 AM," said Parveen Deshmukh, an education coordinator.

Manish Sisodia was appalled to find the deteriorated conditions of the meal provided to students. Students told him that "they are taking care of themselves. The quality of food is bad. I could see insects in rice," he said.

"The food was supposed to seal-packed but the seal was torn and the quality of the food was very bad," said Deshmukh.

Sisodia asked the Education Department to send a show-cause notice to the NGO 'Stri Shakti' which is responsible for supplying food to the school.

Education Minister also suspended one of the teachers and its principal for absence and irregularities in the school. The school's home science lab was found to be without a gas cylinder or any basic amenities. He also ordered a probe.
