‘Tarzan of the Apes’ Returns to the Small Screen this December

November 29, 2016: Tarzan is one of the most popular characters created in the 20th century. Needless to say, the character which became popular over time, is more than 100 years old and first appeared in print in 1912. Tarzan has been the protagonist of over 200 movies, several TV series, radio dramas, screen dramas, and other popular works, making his way into comic books and the shelves of toy stores as well. The only popular culture universe that had to make do without him was that of the video games – although he was featured in quite a few games, either officially or unofficially, nothing serious was ever released bearing his name and likeness. This year, in turn, he might finally break the ice – he will be the protagonist of a new slot machine set to be released at the All Slots Casino this December.

Slot machines and popular culture

Online slots games are insanely popular both inside and outside the gambling industry. Millions of people play them on a daily basis online, at real money gaming facilities like the All Slots, or in land-based gambling destinations all around the world. They are the 'protagonists' of several popular social games as well – games like Slotomania, Big Fish Casino or DoubleDown are constantly among the top grossing apps in both major app marketplaces. This means that, although being revived as a slot machine protagonist might not seem like a worthy way for Tarzan to return, it might just be the necessary step in the right direction to turn him into a popular video game character.

Slot machines reach out for inspiration into a vast variety of sources, including movies, TV series, game shows and video games. Tarzan is the latest in a series of popular characters to make it to the All Slots game library – in the past, the gaming portal has seen games inspired by characters like the Titans, Hades, Thor, Loki, Batman, Hellboy, and many others.

Tarzan – a short biography

Most modern renditions of his story depict Tarzan as a feral child, "jungle-wise" but not very well versed in the matters of the modern world, it's not the way his creator, Edgar Rice Burroughs, has imagined him. In his stories, Tarzan is the child of a British noble couple stranded in the jungle of Africa. Tarzan's parents both die in the jungle and the orphaned child is adopted by a tribe of big apes known as the Mangani. Tarzan – John Clayton, Viscount of Greystoke – acquires the necessary skills and knowledge to survive the jungle, but he learns a lot about the human world from his parents' books. He grows up to be a noble, handsome male, intelligent, loyal, steadfast, and extremely ethical. Although he is able to pass within society, Tarzan always prefers to "strip off the thin veneer of civilization", and return to nature.
