Centre asks Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to furnish details of Overseas Funding

New Delhi, May 5, 2017: Delhi's ruling party, AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) was questioned by the Narendra Modi government today, to provide details of overseas funding due to the following suspicion that it might have violated the provisions of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, an official said.

Welcoming the center's decision, former AAP member Dr. Munish Kumar Raizada through Chanda Bandh Satyagraha or the No List No Donation campaign says, "We want the party leadership to come clean on the sources of its donations. The party should mention details of all the donations received by it and put it in public domain on the website."

After suspecting that the funding from overseas might have violated FCRA provisions, the Union Home Ministry asked the Arvind Kejriwal-led party to explain certain fundings from abroad, mentioned PTI report.

The communication to AAP was part of its "routine" queries sent to a few other political parties regarding overseas funding to them, the MHA official said. He further made it clear that it was not a show cause notice and a decision on it would be taken only after the AAP comes with its reply.

AAP'S RESPONSE

AAP's replied to the Home Ministry's notice by calling it a "political witch hunt."

The party said, "we have nothing to hide. We are ready to face any probe and party will fully cooperate with all concerned officials and agencies. It's worth mentioning that the Ministry of Home Affairs had given us a clean chit before the High Court on this issue and now they are sending us fresh notices."

"It is a clear case of political witch hunt. All the agencies at Centre's disposal have been unleashed against Aam Aadmi Party, its government in Delhi and its ministers. Which is very dangerous for democracy," it added.
