Jaipur Forts: All You Need To Know

Jaipur, an integral part of Indian tourism, is also one of the most beautiful places in Rajasthan. It is popularly known as the Pink City and is well known for its forts and magnificent places. The marvelous architecture reflects the Indian architecture and glory of Rajputs.

Sawai Jai Singh II, the then ruler of Rajasthan established the city of Jaipur in the year 1727. 1. Amber or Amer Fort

Amber Fort used to be inhabited by Rajput royals until the city of Jaipur was established. The fort can be reached by a jeep or elephant perching up on the hill. It is a majestic blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture. Some important and must-visit places in the fort are Shila Mata temple, Jas Mandir, and the Sheesh Mahal. You can enjoy the evening at the fort through the sound and light show.

2. Nahargarh Fort

Also known as the 'Tiger Fort', it was built by Jai Singh II. The aim was to provide a strong defense to the city. It stands on the edge of Aravalli Hills and is the best place to view the beautiful Pink City. The extended walls of the fort connect it to Fort Jaigarh. The fort was basically used as a place of protection for the Europeans including the British wives of the region during the first war of Indian Independence in 1857. It was also the hunting residence of the Maharajas of Jaipur.

3. Jaigarh Fort

Jaigarh Fort was built by Jai Singh II in the year 1726. It is also known as the 'Fort of Victory'. Being dominated by huge walls and watchtowers, it is a good example of a self-sufficient place. There are 3km long thick sandstone walls and Indo-Persian style architectural features. Some of the best places to visit here are the Ram Harihar temple, Kal Bhairav temple, a museum for arms and ammunition of those days and the largest cannon named Jaivana.
