New Delhi, August 8, 2025 – Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, accused the Election Commission of India (EC) of colluding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Speaking at a dinner meeting of the Opposition-led INDIA bloc on Thursday evening,

Gandhi presented a data-driven analysis alleging voter fraud in the Mahadevapura Assembly Constituency of the Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha constituency. The presentation, his second of the day, claimed 1,00,250 fraudulent votes were created, contributing to the BJP’s victory.

The INDIA bloc dinner, attended by nearly 50 senior leaders, was convened to discuss the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, Vice-Presidential elections, and other issues. Gandhi’s presentation focused on what he described as “vote theft” in Karnataka, based on a six-month manual analysis of voter data from Mahadevapura.

Out of 6,50,000 total votes in the Bengaluru Central constituency, Gandhi’s team identified 1,00,250 allegedly fraudulent entries. In the constituency, PC Mohan of the BJP defeated Congress’s Mansoor Ali Khan by 32,707 votes. In Mahadevapura, the BJP secured 2,29,632 votes, while Congress received 1,15,586 votes, a margin of 1,14,046 votes.

Gandhi alleged six types of voter list irregularities: same voter appearing multiple times in rolls, same voter registered in multiple states, non-existent addresses, bulk voters at a single address, indistinguishable photos on voter IDs, and misuse of Form 6 for first-time voters.

His team identified 11,965 duplicate voters, some listed multiple times across polling booths, including Gurkirat Singh Dang, who appeared four times in four different booths. Additionally, 40,009 voters had fake or non-existent addresses, including entries like “House Number Zero” and father’s names listed as random letter combinations like “DFOIGOIDF.”

The analysis found 10,452 instances of bulk voters registered at single addresses, 4,132 voters with missing or unidentifiable photographs, and 33,692 “first-time” voters, some aged between 70 and 95, allegedly added through Form 6. Gandhi stated, “This is not voter addition. This is "Vote Chori.”

He further claimed, “They're not in the business of protecting democracy anymore, they're helping dismantle it. The umpire is on the other team. The judiciary needs to get involved in this because the democracy that we love so much does not exist.”

Before hosting India Bloc leaders, Rahul Gandhi, in the afternoon did a press conference giving details of the allegations posed by him on the ECI. Gandhi alleged that fraud includes 11,965 duplicate voters, 10,452 bulk or single-address voters, 40,009 with fake or invalid addresses and 33,692 voters added through misuse of Form 6. According to him, the “Vote Chori” in the seat amounted to 1,00,250 votes.

Gandhi, in his presentation, showed the photo of Former Chief electoral officer, Rajiv Kumar along with the photo PM Modi and HM Amit Shah with the text "Democracy Destroyed", raising serious allegation on India's chief Poll Body of Voter Fraud.

The Election Commission responded, asking Gandhi to submit the claimed proofs under oath. Gandhi replied, “What I say to the people is my word. Take it as an oath. This is their (EC) data, and we are displaying their data.”

Gandhi stated that internal Congress polling projected 16 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, but the party won only nine. His team focused on seven unexpected losses, narrowing their analysis to Bengaluru Central and specifically Mahadevapura due to resource constraints. Gandhi alleged that the Mahadevapura seat determined the BJP’s victory in the constituency, as Congress won all other Vidhan Sabha segments within Bengaluru Central.

Gandhi also claimed the BJP faced no anti-incumbency in 2024, despite opinion polls suggesting otherwise. He cited election results in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, where outcomes contradicted predictions. He referenced factors like the Ladli Behna scheme, Pulwama, Operation Sindoor, and narrative creation as contributing to the BJP’s victories.

The dinner event highlighted the Opposition’s concerns about the electoral process. Gandhi’s presentation aimed to demonstrate systematic manipulation in Mahadevapura assembly constituency, sparking discussions among INDIA bloc leaders. The BJP has not commented on the specific allegations regarding Mahadevapura. The Election Commission has not issued further statements as of August 8, 2025.

The Opposition continues to call for greater transparency in the electoral process, with Gandhi’s claims serving as a focal point for their strategy to address perceived irregularities in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. [Rh/Eth/VS]
