28th Edition of Road Safety Week to be organised in Delhi from Jan 9, will sensitise people about Road Safety

New Delhi, Jan 6, 2017:  With the aim to sensitise people about road safety, the 28th edition of the Road Safety Week will be organised here from January 9, it was announced on Friday.

“The week will open with a road safety walk from India Gate in the capital on January 9,” an official release said.

Various Union ministers, including Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Health and Family Welfare J.P. Nadda and Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Vijay Goel will participate in the walk, the release said.

The ministry has already been organising workshops in the states with different stakeholders to sensitise them about road safety.

So far, workshops have been organised in Bihar, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Assam, Rajasthan and Puducherry and the participation has been very encouraging, it said.

The ministry will also run road safety campaigns through social media such as Twitter and Facebook, it said.

Two mobile apps — e-Challan and m-Parivahan — will also be launched during the week, the release added.

Countrywide essay writing competitions on the topic of road safety will be organised for school children. (IANS)
