35-year-old German tourist Jesus Engel Berger attempts barging into famous Jagannath Temple in Puri

New Delhi, March 1, 2017: A 35-year-old German tourist named Jesus Engel Berger was detained by local police, when he forcibly tried barging into Jagannath Temple in Puri. It's 60 km south of the capital city Bhubaneshwar.

Puri Jagannath Temple does not allow non-Hindus to enter the temple, it's an ancient tradition of thousands of years. When a priest tried to stop Jesus Engel Berger from entering the temple, he assaulted the priest.

He was detained after a complaint by the priest of Puri temple, Bandeba Pujapanda. According to police, he's a resident of Neureichenau in Germany, mentioned Sputnik news.

German tourist, Jesus Engel Berger claimed himself to be the follower of ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness).

The Jagannath Temple of Puri is a holy Vaishnava temple devoted to Lord Jagannath and eastern coast of India at Puri in the state of Odisha.
