India, South Korea to boost defense ties

In order to strengthen the relations between the two countries, Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar met South Korean counterpart, Gen Han Min-Koo on Friday to discuss the ways to expand defense ties.

The efforts to develop mutually-beneficial partnership between the two countries in defense production were discussed at the meeting in Seoul.

"We are focused on ways to expand contact between the countries for defense establishments and building deep partnerships between their defense industries," said the two ministers.

While on the visit, Parrikar also met senior South Korean defense officials, including National Security Advisor Kim Kwan-Jin, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff and minister of Defense acquisition program administration.

In the meeting, the regional and global issues of peace and security were also discussed.

Parrikar said "I chose South Korea as the destination of my first visit under the 'Make in India' campaign in recognition of the importance of India's attachment to the country as a partner."

Moreover,the meeting also concentrated on the ways to intensify bilateral cooperation and enhance defense in a manner to commensurate more with close strategic partners.
