Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav said on Thursday that RJD and Janata Dal (United) (JD-U) will take part in the Bihar assembly elections as alliance partners. He ruled out the possibility of the merger of Janata parties in near future.

"A strong alliance of the RJD and the JD-U will defeat the BJP in the Bihar polls, if there is a delay in their merger," Lalu said, as reported by IANS.

The merger amongst the Janata Party was initiated to defeat BJP in the assembly elections.

He said that the merger has been delayed due to some "technical problems" and will definitely be finalized in the next few months.

Lalu Yadav said, "I am a strong supporter of the merger of the six parties of the Janata Parivar, including the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Janata Dal (United), but some technical problems have come in the way of their merger. It may get delayed, so the RJD and the JD-U would contest the Bihar assembly polls together in alliance."
