New Delhi: The Delhi Metro on Monday completed the 1,351 metre tunneling between Kashmere Gate and Red Fort.

Constructed under the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's (DMRC) Phase – 3, the stretch of tunnel on the 9.37 km long Central Secretariat – Kashmere Gate corridor passed beneath the existing Kashmere Gate elevated metro station.

"The tunnel boring machine emerged at (Red Fort) Lal Qila metro station site after making a 1,351 metre-long tunnel from Kashmere Gate. The initial drive of the tunnel which is 16 metres below the surface began on December 26, 2014," the DMRC said.

"The tunnel passed under the historical Dara Shikoh Library, Lothian Bridge (Delhi – Shahdara Northern Railway Line), and Ambedkar University," it added.
