Islamabad: India has released nine Pakistani fishermen as a goodwill gesture, a media report said on Sunday.

The fishermen were handed over to Pakistan Rangers by the Border Security Force at the Wagha border in Punjab, state-run Radio Pakistan reported.

The released prisoners had completed their jail terms in different jail in India, it said.

The release came a week after Pakistan freed 163 Indian fishermen from a Karachi jail.

Pakistani and Indian authorities frequently arrest fishermen for allegedly violating their maritime border in the Arabian Sea.
