Ahmedabad: After the arrest of Hardik Patel, the convener of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) on Tuesday night, violence erupted in at least 20 locations including Ghatlodia, Chandlodia, Ranip, Sola, Nikol, Shahibaug, and Naroda.

Hardik Patel was arrested at around 7:45 PM from GMDC ground where a massive rally demanding OBC reservations for the Patel community was held on Tuesday. Following this, Patel's supporters took to streets, according to a report in Times of India.

Hardik Patel was taken to police headquarters, where hundreds of Patidhars gathered and protested. After violence began erupting, the police released Hardik Patel at 9.30 PM.

Meanwhile the Patel's supporters torched around 10 government vehicles and attacked many policemen. The violence stopped only after the release of Hardik Patel.

Amidst protests and rising tensions, the schools will remain closed on Wednesday.

According to some TV reports, curfew has been imposed in the city.
