Seventh pay commission term extended till December 31

New Delhi: The union cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval for extending the term of the Seventh Central Pay Commission by four months up to December 31 this year. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to the resolution of February 28, 2014, by which the commission was constituted by then Manmohan Singh-led UPA government, the commission was to make its recommendations within eighteen months of the date of its constitution that is by Aug 27, 2015. An official release said that the commission had made a request to the government for a four month extension up to December 31 in view of its volume of work and intensive stake-holders' consultations.
