Refugees demonstration in Budapest

Author : NewsGram Desk

Budapest: On Sunday, hundreds of refugees gathered at Budapest's Eastern (Keleti) Railway Station and were demanding that they be allowed to travel to Germany, Hungarian television channel M1 reported.

The demonstrators chanted: "Germany, Germany…" in English and also asked for United Nations presence. They illustrated their demand by giving Germany a "thumbs up" sign and Hungary a "thumbs down" one, Xinhua reported.

Their protest was against Hungarian police, who prevented them from boarding the trains which were leaving the country.

According to M1 television, police have increased their presence at the station and are preventing refugees from entering.

An on-scene interpreter said the refugees were furious about not being allowed to board trains, given that most had already purchased their tickets.
